Great Waters Summer Concerts has just announced that the world-renowned Chanticleer will perform at the First Congregational Church in Wolfeboro on Friday, July 24th. This GRAMMY® Award-winning vocal ensemble based in San Francisco is known as an “orchestra of voices and has performed thousands of concerts since its inception in 1978, and has sold more than one million recordings.
Chanticleer’s mission is to present choral music at the highest level of excellence and to encourage worldwide appreciation of ensemble singing through live performances, education, and recording. Rooted in the music of the Renaissance, it has expanded its offerings to include a wide range of gospel, jazz, and popular music in addition to what it is best known for – classical. Over the years, the group has received several awards in addition to its first Grammy in 1999. It received two additional Grammys in 2002 and was inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame in 2008.
The group is under the direction of Dr. Tim Keeler, who performed as a countertenor with the group before becoming their music director. Dr. Keeler holds several degrees, including a BA in music from Princeton University, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Michigan, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Maryland.
